You Are a Disciple of Jesus

IDENTITY           WEEK 4: YOU ARE A DISCIPLE OF JESUS             STUDY GUIDE

Key Scripture: John 13:34-35

Key Principles:

  1. As a disciple, you listen to God.
  2. As a disciple, you find needs and you meet them.
  3. As a disciple, you find hurts and you heal them.

Discussion Questions:

• What do you think of when you hear the name “Christian?” Talk about the impressions people you know have of what a Christian is.

• What does it mean to you to be a disciple of Jesus?

• What are some of the biggest challenges you face being a disciple of Jesus?

• As a disciple, what are some of the most important things you have learned from Jesus?

Read Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 10:42, Matthew 9:35-36, John 13:34-35, and John 10:27. These passages describe the things we should do as a disciple of Jesus.

• Describe a time when someone met an important need that you had. What did you learn from this act of kindness?

• What are some needs of others that you know of that you could meet? How will you go about meeting these needs?

• How has Christ used his disciples to heal your hurts?

• In what ways has Christ equipped you as a disciple to help you heal the hurts of others?

• What are some of the things Jesus is leading you to do that do not fit neatly into a point on a page? How will you respond to him?

Next Steps: Commit to living out your faith this week.

• As a disciple of Jesus, we will find a need and meet it and we will find a hurt and heal it. This week commit to meeting the needs of someone you know that is hurting. If their needs are too great for you to handle alone, consider enlisting the help of friends, family or your Life Group. Also step up to serve within our church—the best place to start meeting the needs of others.

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

• Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins. I pray for those who have needs and are hurting, and ask you to comfort them in their need. Lord, show me how I may help those in needs and empower me to do the things that you call me to do.
