The Invitation

The Invitation

Key Scriptures: Genesis 5:21-24

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

Lesson One: God’s desire is that we would gain a closer walk with him.
• Life apart from walking with God will never satisfy a heart that was made in the likeness of God
• God’s goal for our lives isn’t the number of days we spend on earth—it’s that we spend our days walking in a relationship with him

Matthew 17:3, Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Genesis 5:1-2, When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when he created them, he called them ‘man.’

Genesis 5:21-24, When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

.

Lesson Two: God has given us a personal invitation to walk more closely with him.
• Jesus was sent on a rescue mission to invite us into a relationship with God

Matthew 4:23, Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

.

Lesson Three: Our response to God’s invitation to walk with him
• Mankind has rejected the invitation of God from the beginning
• God’s heart is that we would say ‘YES’ to his invitation to walk with him

Luke 14:16-20, Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

.

Walking with God
• We would gain an awareness of the PRESENCE of God
• We would gain a growing appreciation for the PERSON of God
• We would gain an acknowledgment of the POSITION of God
