The Heart of Worship

The Heart of Worship

Key Scriptures: Hebrews 13:15-16

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Lesson One: There is an unmistakable connection between our awareness of grace and our expression of worship.
• In light of God’s glory and grace, everything in my life becomes an expression of worship

Hebrews 13 :15, Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Lesson Two: The Church is born in the sacrifice of Christ, so the Church models Christ.
• Jesus is our example of sacrifice and service. The response of the Church is to model his sacrifice

Hebrews 13:12-13, And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

Lesson Three: Our response is the sacrifice of self.
• Glory and grace move us from being consumers to being consumed by God

Romans 12:1, Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Habakkuk 3:17-19, Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to tread on the heights.
