Full of Grace and Truth

Full of Grace and Truth

Key Scriptures: John 1:1-5, 14

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Lesson One: We should live with grace and truth.
• Truth without grace leads to self-righteousness and legalism
• Grace without truth leads to deception and moral compromise

John 1:14, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Lesson Two: The true expression of love is found in the tension between grace and truth.

John 8:7, When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

John 8:11, “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Lesson Three: We follow the model of Jesus.
• Jesus first offered the woman grace, and then showed her the truth.

John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
