All About Discipleship

BACK TO THE START               WEEK 3: ALL ABOUT DISCIPLESHIP                  STUDY GUIDE

Main Idea: A disciple will carefully read, study, and live according to God’s Word.

Key Scripture: John 8:31, Psalm 19:7-11

Key Principles:

  1. The Bible equips us to be disciples.
  2. The Bible is truth
  3. The Bible reveals the will of God.

Discussion Questions:

Read John 8:31. This verse is addressed to those who believe, and yet do not believe. They were inclined to think that what Jesus said was true, but were not prepared to trust in him.

  • What does the phrase mean “continue in my word”? How can we live in Jesus’ Word?
  • What if the Church was filled with people who read and study scripture like you do? Would we be a Bible-studying church? How about disciple making? What example do you set for others?
  • How will we know the truth? Is it simply through studying? Do you find that you fall into the trap of reading scripture without comprehension?
  • In what way does the truth set a person free? What is the opposite of free? What were the people Jesus was talking to captives of? What is it that holds you captive?
  • The Bible reveals the complete will of God. Do you find yourself searching for his will in other places?

Read Psalm 19:1-7. These verses explain seven glorious statements about the Word of God and how wonderful and effective it is.

  • In this Psalm the terms perfect, sure, right, pure, holy, righteous and treasure are used to describe God’s Word. From which of these effects have you benefited personally?

Next Steps: What steps can you take to continue in the Word of God this week?

  • Ask God to reveal the areas in your walk with him where you are failing.
  • Review your schedule and create time to read and study scripture this week.
  • Identify the people and the opportunities that you have to make disciples this week.

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

  • Father, as I learn and grow in faith and knowledge of you, help me to be a disciple maker.
