Abandon the Flesh, Embrace the Flame

Key Scriptures: Acts 1:4-8, Acts 2:1-4

And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Even though I could do it in my own strength; I will wait for power from on high.

.

Lesson one: Waiting requires a shift in attitude.
• It’s a shift in attitude that says—I’m not going to step forward without acknowledging some things and shifting the way that I think about whatever it is I’m about to do.

Acts 1:4, And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss.

.

Lesson Two: Waiting requires a comprehension of God’s purpose for our lives.
• We have a massive mission, purpose and calling to take the gospel to the ends of the earth

Acts 1:8, But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

.

Lesson Three: Waiting requires humility.
• Abandoning confidence in self and embracing the possibility of the Holy Spirit

Philippians 3:3, For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh.
