The Surrendered Life
Key Scriptures: Luke 2:8-11
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
Main Idea: Jesus is Lord and he doesn’t want any part-time followers. We are called to surrender to his Lordship.
TWO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SURRENDER
Lesson One: The partially surrendered life.
• To believe in God and even claim that Jesus is Lord—but continue to live as if he really isn’t in charge
Luke 6:46, Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord’, and not do what I say?
Proverbs 3:5-6 (Partially Surrendered Version), Trust in the Lord with some of your heart, and lean on your own understanding, in some of your ways acknowledge him, and you can make your own paths straight.
Lesson Two: The fully surrendered life.
• To live a full-on, holding nothing back, my life does not belong to me but belongs to him—commitment to the Lord
Romans 14:7-8, For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all of your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Romans 12:1, Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
