The Miracle of the Incarnation

Key Scriptures: Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. The angel aid to her,Do not be afraid. Mary, you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Theme: We serve a God who splits things and invites us to walk through what he has split for us.

Week 1—Jesus split the veil between God and man through the incarnation of Jesus Christ.

What would it look like if we were to walk through the miracle of the incarnation?

.

Lesson One: We would live like God has already made the move toward us.

John 1:14-15, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the- glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

.

Lesson Two: We would believe that God has the ability to invade the ordinary with heavenly purpose.

Luke 1:26-27, In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

Luke 2:8-9, And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

.

Lesson Three: We would come to know that God ‘gets it.’

.

Lesson Four: We would live with a confident faith that God is near.

Luke 1:35, The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

.

Lesson Five: We would understand that God desires a relationship with us.

Galatians 5:6, For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
