BACK TO THE START WEEK 4: PRIVILEGED TO SERVE STUDY GUIDE
Main Idea: Jesus did not come to be serve, but to be served. We are called to model his life of service.
Key Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11
Key Principles: 3 Ingredients for Developing a Servant’s Heart
- Humility.
- Sacrifice.
- Faith.
Discussion Questions:
Read Philippians 2:3-11.
- What do you think it means to “have the same mindset” as Christ Jesus?
- What would change in your relationships if you started having the same mindset as Jesus?
- How do you balance meeting your own needs and serving those around you?
- Jesus took the role of a servant. How have you experienced Jesus serving you in your life?
- In what areas of your life could you exercise more humility right now? What is one very tangible way that you can imitate Jesus’ humility in the next week?
- If you aren’t currently serving in the local church, what has kept you from serving? How would an attitude of humility and sacrifice affect the way you serve?
- What would it mean for you to serve others and not worry about your name, significance or success?
- Do you think that our promise of a reward for being obedient to God should factor into our willingness to serve? Why or why not?
Next Steps: What steps can you take to become a better servant this week?
- Take some time to reflect on all of the good things in your life and then spend time thanking God for them.
- Let go of something that is your “right or privilege” in order to meet the needs of someone else.
- Begin making a list of blessings that you have seen—and ones that God has promised you in scripture.
Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.
- Father, help me to empty myself and pour myself out for others today.
