Person of Power

JESUS THE MIRACLE WORKER            WEEK 3: PERSON OF POWER                  STUDY GUIDE

Main idea: The grace of God is greater than any human condition.

Key Scripture: Mark 5:21-42

Key Principles:

  1. Jesus has power over the demonic.
  2. Jesus has power over sickness.
  3. Jesus has power over death.

Discussion Questions:

Read Mark 5:21-42.

• Who do you relate to more, the desperate father or the sick woman? Why?

• Some of the individuals in Jarius’ life did not believe in the power of Jesus to bring new life to his daughter and sought to persuade Jarius to leave Jesus alone. Have you ever experienced a time when others (either directly or indirectly) tried to persuade you not to believe in the power of Jesus? What are some things that we can do as a Life Group to encourage one another to have unwavering faith in Christ?  What are some things we need to guard ourselves against so that we don’t ever discourage faith in Christ?

• After the woman received healing Jesus had to stop and ask “who touched my garments?”  The woman wanted something (healing), while Jesus wanted someone (a relationship). Can you think of some examples of when we tend to just ask Jesus to supply us with something?  In those times, is there a way that we can go beyond simply asking Jesus for something and turn those into opportunities to grow our relationship with him as well?

• Mark talked about a form of healing that runs deeper than our physical healing, a healing that brings peace even when physical healing doesn’t come. Why might this healing be even more valuable than physical healing?

• The Bible is clear that coming to Jesus in faith is the only means of salvation—on our own we can have no hope or confidence in achieving salvation by our own merit. So, each of us has been rescued from despair in that sense. How should being rescued from despair change an individual’s life? Can others tell that our lives have been changed?
