Invitation

Key Scriptures: Psalm 23:5, Hebrews 11:5-6, Genesis 5:21-24

Psalm 23:5, You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…

Hebrews 11:5-6, By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Gen 5:21-24, When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

.

Lesson One: Jesus extends the invitation.
• God is the initiator of the relationship and graciously invites us to the table with him

Psalm 23:5, You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…

.

Lesson Two: This is an invitation to faith.
•A belief that he is God and the desire to earnestly seek him

Hebrews 11:5-6, By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Romans 10:9, If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

.

Lesson Three: We have the choice to accept or reject God’s invitation.
•Rejecting his invitation is to choose to sit at another table
