Embracing Your Purpose
Key Scriptures: Acts 13:36
Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep, he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.
Main Idea: If you don’t know something’s purpose, you’ll likely misuse or abuse it. God has a purpose for each one of us that we are called to embrace.
3 PRINCIPLES OF PURPOSE
Lesson One: Your purpose isn’t for you; your purpose is God’s purpose.
• Purpose is defined as original intent
• We are created for God’s will and for his glory
Psalm 57:2, I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.
Lesson Two: You don’t find your purpose; you serve God’s purpose.
• We will not find our purpose in the things of this world
Philippians 2:13, For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Psalm 78:70-71, God chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep and brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance.
Lesson Three: If you want to serve God’s purpose, start serving God’s people.
• We do not live our life for our own purpose, we live for the glory of God
• The greatest joy in life is found when we are used by God to make a difference in someone else’s life
Mark 10:45, For even the Son of Man didn’t come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
1 John 3:18, Dear children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.
