All About Discipleship

All About Discipleship

Key Scriptures: John 8:31, Psalm 19:7-11

John 8:31, If you continue in my word, you are my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Psalm 19:7-11, The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

Main Point: A disciple will carefully read, study, and live according to God’s Word.

“All who are called to salvation are called to discipleship. No exceptions. No excuses.” C.S. Lewis

Lesson One: The Bible equips us to be disciples.
• Success or failure in the life of a believer is dependent on how much of the Bible you get into your heart and mind on a daily basis and how obedient you are to it.

Matthew 28:19-20, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Colossians 1:28, Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1, Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Psalm 1:1-2, Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night.

Lesson Two: The Bible is Truth.
• The Word of God is the yardstick by which we measure all other so-called truth

John 8:31, If you continue in my word, you are my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Romans 12:1-2, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

John 17:17, Sanctify them in truth, your word is the truth.

1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Acts 17:11, Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Lesson Three: The Bible reveals the will of God.
• Everything that we need to know about God and life is found in the Bible
• The Bible is the complete teaching of the revealed will of God

Psalm 19:7-11, The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
